Suspension of Masses


1. All acts of public worship have been suspended. That means there will be no Masses celebrated in public at Sacred Heart, Rothley and St Theresa’s, Birstall until further notice. However, Fr Ted will be celebrating Mass each day at 9.30am, including the weekend. This gives parishioners the opportunity to join in the Mass by spiritual communion.

3. Baptisms are to be deferred till further notice, as are First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This also applies to Confirmation and Marriage.

4. Funerals can only take place at a crematorium or at the graveside. No Mass or service can take place in church. A memorial Mass could be arranged for a later time when congregations are allowed to gather.

5. Reconciliation (Confession) can be arranged on request as long as social distancing is observed.

6. Because of the situation the Church finds herself in, the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holydays of Obligation is removed, until further notice.

7. St. Theresa’s will be open for private prayer on Saturdays and Sundays from 10.00am till 12.00am until further notice.

8. The obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holydays of Obligation has been suspended.
