Our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist play a vital role in the life of the parish, supporting the Parish Priest in his ministry.

Ministers’ duties include:

  • Assisting at mass with the distribution of Holy Communion (usually under both kinds).
  • Visiting sick and housebound parishioners, praying with them and giving Holy Communion.
  • Conducting services of the word and Holy Communion in the absence of the Parish Priest.

At present, we have fourteen  ministers serving both parishes.  Each year, Ministers attend both a Diocesan Day of Recollection and a Parish Retreat Day.

Training  is held over a weekend at the Briars, Crich.   The training encompasses both spiritual and practical aspects of the Ministry, and if the candidate is willing, followed by commissioning by Bishop Patrick.   It is a most joyful and moving service held in St Barnabas’ Cathedral Nottingham.
